Portfolio Progress

I've made serious progress with the production of my digital self-advertisement [see previous blogs on my world-wide search for new employment].

I now have what they call a "high-level concept," visual concepts (metaphors) for each of two key components as well as a rough draft of the more complex of the two. AND ALSO a good start on the production of a "proof-of-concept" component. I am very excited about this last part.

Yeah. I know. Specialized gobbledy-gook. Okay, let's just say I've leapt forward. This after spending 3 weeks collecting source material, playing around with ideas, letting the creative process gestate...

The early stages of the creative process can seem SOOO slow! Now, I'm treating myself like a client (what a concept!) and it helps me face the huge component of work involved.

I'm used to having creative people under me to do the gruntwork. But now it's all on me. I have to refresh my knowledge of software I haven't used for years, dust off production skills I'm used to delegating because they were never my strong suits in the first place; and I forge ahead.

Nagging at the back of my mind is the thought that, after 9 years, I've got a lot to say! It's intimidating, a lot of work.

The good news: my idea builds on a layering of new material. I can publish early, with minimal coverage of key ideas, and update to new versions over time, with no apparent clumsiness, once I reach a small critical mass. Yippee!

The downside: The whole thing becomes an ongoing project, with no foreseeable end. I'd hoped to be able to relax sometime in mid-June or so; now I think I'll need to keep on pushing (well, maybe not. ..maybe I'll get lucky... who knows. Y'gotta suit up for every game, as they say.)

Does any of this make sense, y'all?
